Analysis of a dual frequency slotted circular microstrip antenna

AbstractIn this paper a design approach of circular microstrip patch antenna for dual frequency operation is described. The antenna dimensions are computed from the cavity model at fundamental frequency 2.1 GHz for TM110 mode. For better performance of the antenna, coaxial probe feed technique is used for excitation. Two parallel slots and another orthogonal slot are introduced to a conventional circular patch which results in dual frequency response, at 2.04 and 2.9 GHz. HFSS modeling and simulation are carried out for design optimization and theoretical results. Experimental measurements of S-parameter is carried out using a Vector Network Analyzer for verification of input impedance matching. This antenna is useful for wireless communication applications operating in the frequency range of 2GHz to 3 GHz.
